Accounts Receivable Clerk (Hilo)


Under general direction from the Accounting Manager, the Account Receivable Clerk ensures that Suisan Company, Limited receives payments for goods and services and properly records the transactions. The duties and responsibilities of this position require not only a knack for numbers, but also attention to detail and well-developed organizational skills.

Essential Functions

  1. Posts customer payments by recording cash, checks, and credit card transactions.
  2. Posts revenues by verifying and entering transactions from mail and local deposits.
  3. Maintains records with daily batch reporting supported by check copies and debit/credit memo back-ups.
  4. Reconciliation of daily driver/will call receipts and invoice manifest.
  5. Verifies validity of account discrepancies by obtaining and investigating information from sales, trade promotions, customer service departments, and from customers;
  6. Resolves valid or authorized deductions by entering adjusting entries.
  7. Resolves invalid or unauthorized deductions by following pending deductions procedures.
  8. Resolves collections by examining customer payment plans, payment history, credit line; coordinating contact with collections department.
  9. Prepares and completes bank deposits for armored car pick-up.
  10. Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  11. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  12. Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

  16. Organize workflow to meet deadlines.
  17. Ability to work safely and follow all safety policies and procedures.
  18. Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure a safe work environment.
  19. Clean and respond to any spills immediately.
  20. Follows all Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and procedures that relate to sanitation, food safety and pest control.
  21. Sweep and clean to maintain required level of cleanliness.
  22. Participate in daily Flex & Stretch.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.


To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility in a safe and satisfactory manner.  Work under minimal supervision, apply logic and reasoning to solve complex problems, use sound judgement and discretion in performing work duties. Requires excellent written and oral communications skills. Ability to listen, persuade, and influence skills in dealing with all levels of employees, clients and vendors.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is largely a sedentary role. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience
Associates Degree in Business Administration

Or Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or in process or equivalent experience of 3 years in an administrative or office setting.

  3. Must have attention to detail, excellent customer service, and front of the line support
  4. Ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks
