When
Suisan was formed, its fresh catch of fish was brought into Hilo by horse
drawn buggy and sold from open baskets. Today the company's operations
encompass exports and imports that extend over worldwide channels of distribution.
Demand for the Islands' "fruits of the sea" has increased dramatically.
So have the size and skills of the modern fishing fleets which supply
the company's wholesale and retail businesses. The company also imports
fresh and frozen seafoods which are locally unavailable, providing them
to its vast network of buyers. Many of these are Hawaii's best known gourmet
restaurants and stores.
Significantly, Suisan is riding the crest
of a wave that should continue to mount. People everywhere are eating
more seafood, more aware than ever of its high nutritional value and many
health benefits.
